Getting Comfy with Contacts

Tempted to try contact lenses?

Or maybe you’ve tried them before and they didn’t fit properly or the whole insertion, removal and aftercare rigmarole felt like too much trouble?

At The Wright Eyewear Company, we stock a wide range of trial contacts to meet the needs of the majority of eyewear users, so now might be the time to take the plunge.

And remember that if it’s been a while since you last considered contacts, they’ve come on leaps and bounds in terms of technical features, convenience and comfort.

If you’re interested, read on for more info on how contacts could help you turn over a totally new leaf in your personal stylebook.

Cutting-edge contact lenses

Modern advances mean that contacts are now an option for most people who have problems with their vision – for example, people with astigmatism can wear toric lenses to correct the condition.

And one of the biggest drawbacks traditionally associated with contacts is that they can cause your eyes to dry out – however, options such as our gas permeable contacts contain silicone, which allows oxygen to pass directly through to your cornea and preserves moisture.

Furthermore, many lenses are manufactured using soft materials which provide added comfort throughout the day, so there’s no more rubbing your eyes in discomfort by lunchtime before reverting back to your specs.

Why wear contacts?

There are countless reasons to wear contacts, but here are a few of the best:

  • Contact lenses are the perfect practical solution for specs wearers looking to switch up their look. And if you use coloured contacts, you’ll achieve an even more radical transformation.

  • They’re also a subtle solution for people with vision problems searching for unobtrusive eyewear – and for sportspeople or those who spend a lot of time in the great outdoors in environments where their glasses could easily be damaged.

  • If you’re a devoted spec supporter who can’t picture your life without them, you can always switch between glasses and contacts depending on your daily activities and enjoy greater eyewear variety with the best of both worlds.

Aftercare tips

Aftercare is important for contact lenses but it doesn’t need to be too time-consuming. Just bear in mind that:

  • Cleanliness is key when it comes to wearing contacts. It’s essential that you wash your hands before touching your lenses to avoid any harmful bacteria coming into contact with your eyes. You should also dry your hands, as water contains microbes which can cause infections.

  • If you wear reusable lenses, you’ll need to clean them after each use. You should do this straightaway and make sure you use a disinfectant solution that’s specifically for contacts.

  • You’ll also need to attend aftercare appointments where an optician will check that your lenses are a good fit, not causing any problems for your general eye health and are the right prescription.

The steps above might seem like a lot more work when compared to glasses care, but these little jobs quickly become second nature when you get into the swing of things.

The Wright Eyewear Company support

If you’d like to give contacts a try or see about switching to a different style of lens, our in-house optician Naeem is on hand to help you choose wisely and can even fit custom-made lenses that mould perfectly to your eyes.

Once your lenses are ready, we’ll provide ample guidance on aftercare and show you how to insert and remove them so you can leave the practice feeling completely confident.

If you’re concerned about cost, we have a contact lens payment scheme which allows you to spread the cost over a 12 month period.

If you’d like to give contacts a whirl now, you’ll be perfectly prepped for party season this year.
